This 28,000-seater stadium was built to replace the old Burnden Park stadium, which was located a few hundred yards from Bolton town centre. The year the new stadium opened Bolton Wanderers were promoted back into The Premiership and were able to maintain this position for 11 years up until 2008.
Throughout this period, and at present day, Bolton Wanderers struggle to increase attract spectators as many fans feel that the new stadium is too far from their ‘birthplace’ Burnden Park some 6 miles away. Average Premiership crowds have stayed around the 21,000 mark.
The stadium cost circa £35 million when constructed and was voted: ‘BCI Building of the Year’ in 1995
