The award was made for services to 'Football and to Charity' with the investiture taking place by her Majesty the Queen on Wednesday 28th February 2007 at Buckingham Palace.

The proposal was made by George Binns ex secretary at Huddersfield Town FC; Kenneth Sharp Commercial Director at Coventry City Football Club; Kenneth Heathcote from Bolton (known nationally as The father of fitness) and daughter Claire, who co-ordinated the proposal and received over 130 support letters from all around the globe.

The whole Fletcher family made the trip, 10 in all with wife Sian, daughter Claire and son Daniel official escorts into Buckingham Palace (only three guests allowed - even for David Beckham and Rod Stewart!).
